Proposal for Term Limits

Term limits do not currently exist for US Congress members. But many of us believe they are very much needed. Ideally Congressional members serve their constituents and their country. Currently many instead kowtow more to the needs and wants of those who give them big money to get re-elected over and over (e.g.: big corporations; the DNC; the RNC; various wealthy special interest groups). 

Here is my term limit straw proposal:

1. no individual can serve as a member of the House of Representatives beyond 6 years - three two year terms
2. no individual can serve as a member of the US Senate beyond 12 years - two six year terms

• propose a set of term limits that gets the support of 80% of US voters
• develop a "Change Congress Agreement" (CCA) - a document a congressional candidate would sign that would clearly indicate his commitment to seeing that the term limits are enacted.  This document would also spell out a detailed action plan for the needed constitutional amendment and any needed new laws to effect the term limits.
• get Congressional candidates to sign that they agree to the terms of and the action plan of the CCA
• encourage voters to elect only CCA signers
• encourage voters to recall elected Congress members who renege on their CCA promise
• see Congress propose and pass bills and the constitutional amendments that will enact the term limits
